莝（音“错”），语出《素问．汤液醪（音“劳”）醴论》。宛，通郁，即郁结。陈莝是陈旧铡碎的草。“去宛陈莝”，就是去掉堆积的陈草，在人体是指去除郁结已久的水液废物，即使用甘遂、牵牛等的逐水法。
