以二方或数方结合使用的，叫做复方。还有另外两种意义：本方之外，又加其它药味；方剂各药用量都一样的。适用于病情复杂或慢性病久治不愈的。如“柴胡四物汤”，即“小柴胡汤”合“四物汤”（柴胡、人参、黄芩、甘草、半夏、川芎、当归、芍药、熟地、生姜、大枣。治虚劳日久，微有寒热，脉沉而数）。
